Signature challenge: The Perdiz course opens with a memorable par 4 — a 375-metre descent on a narrow fairway that then climbs to an elevated green. Club selection and shot direction are key here.

Notable hole: Hole 4 (Perdiz), a 433-metre par 5 dogleg left. A good drive reaches the lake on the right of the descending fairway, with the approach climbing to a bunker-protected green through young pines.

Benamor Golf

18 holes — Fun for all levels

Benamor has built a growing reputation as an enjoyable course for golfers of all abilities. Easily accessible from Tavira via the Via do Infante motorway.

The gently undulating terrain offers views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra do Caldeirão mountains. The design respects many ancient trees, adding natural difficulty and character.

Course features: Strategically placed bunkers and water hazards create a challenging but rewarding round.

Best for: Golfers looking for a quality round without pretension.

Quinta da Ria

18 holes — Nature reserve setting with sea views

Designed by Rocky Roquemore, this beautiful course is set within a nature reserve with views stretching to the sea.

Opening hole: A 475-metre par 5 that sets the tone — a gentle slope down to an undulating green.

Notable challenges:

• Hole 5 (par 3): Lake on the left demands accuracy
• Hole 14 (par 4, 333m): Dogleg left with water on both sides
• Hole 18 (par 5): Wide fairway but the green is surrounded by bunkers

Quinta do Vale

18 holes — Severiano Ballesteros design

Located north of Castro Marim, this course was designed by legendary Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros. It makes excellent use of the natural landscape along the Guadiana River.

Monte Rei ⭐

18 holes — Jack Nicklaus design, 5-star exclusive

The crown jewel of eastern Algarve golf. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Monte Rei sits in the hills north of Tavira and consistently ranks among Europe's finest courses.

Quinta do Lago

Though technically in the central Algarve (near Faro), Quinta do Lago is within reasonable driving distance and too prestigious to omit. This championship course was redesigned in 2014 and has hosted the Portugal Open multiple times.

Course character: Favours players with long drives but demands strategy. The front nine suggests a draw, while the back nine rewards a fade.

Water hazards: Holes 3, 15, and 17 all feature lakes.
